Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann says AI will ‘revolutionize’ development

Neil Druckmann, studio head and head of creative at The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, feels the dawn of more powerful AI tools will "revolutionize how content is being created."

Opining on the technology during an interview with Naughty Dog parent Sony, Druckmann acknowledged there are some "ethical issues we need to address" where AI is concerned, but says it could open the door for studios or "to take on more adventurous projects and push the boundaries of storytelling in games."

Druckmann didn't name-drop any AI tools or technology specifically, but his comments come at a time when major companies like Microsoft

Fortnite Settlement Payouts Are Now Going Out, So You Might Have Money Waiting For You

The first round of refund payments have arrived in the hands of Fortnite players who the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says “were tricked by Epic Games, maker of the popular video game Fortnite, into making unwanted purchases.” Payments have been sent to folks who filed a claim before the original February 2024 deadline–but don’t worry, there’s still more time to get in on this settlement if you missed out previously.

At issue, according to the FTC, was “Fortnite’s counterintuitive, inconsistent, and confusing button configuration [which] led players of all ages to incur unwanted charges based on the press of a single button.” This refers to how the item shop used to allow players to make a purchase with a single, instant button push, and there was only a very brief window wi…

Joaquin Phoenix Quits Movie 5 Days Before Filming, Report Details "Huge Amount Of Outrage"

Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix has abandoned his latest film, just five days before it was due to begin filming, amid a rumor that the actor got “cold feet.”

Variety reports that Phoenix has left the film, an untitled gay romance movie from Todd Haynes (I’m Not There, Carol). Phoenix was very involved in the film, developing the screenplay with Haynes and Jon Raymond. Full sets had been built in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the film was already sold to distributors.

The site reported that the movie is now “in peril,” and that Phoenix’s part “cannot be recast.” All of the crew and stakeholders are waiting to be paid, and losses for the movie could “exceed seven figures.” Variety mentioned Phoenix potentially getting “cold feet,” but it’s not immediately clear why.

On August 1…

There's Nothing In The Rules That Says A Dog Can't Speedrun A Baseball Game For SGDQ

Summer Games Done Quick returns this month, as the annual charity speedrunning event looks to build on last year’s $2.6 million raised for Doctors Without Borders. Today, the Games Done Quick Foundation released the full schedule of events for this year’s marathon, which takes place June 30 to July 6 in Minneapolis, and it includes the return of one very good speedrunning Shiba Inu.

Peanut Butter, the dog who made headlines by speedrunning Gyromite during Awesome Games Done Quick back in January, is back with another run. This time, the Shiba speedrunner will be playing Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball for Super Nintendo, where he’ll try to simply win a single game. The run is currently scheduled for 5:35 PM PT / 8:35 PM ET on Thursday, July 4. C…

Ubisoft's COD-Like Shooter XDefiant Is Unplayable For Many On Launch Day

Ubisoft’s brand-new Call of Duty-like shooter XDefiant, which was designed in part by former longtime Call of Duty boss Mark Rubin, launched today–and it encountered major issues right out of the gate.

Players are reporting that they are unable to join matches in the free-to-play game. Ubisoft said in response, “Please bear with us while we look into servers and matchmaking!” Rubin, for his part, posted a silly GIF on social media with the caption, “Matchmaking servers go boom!” He said the team is working to address the problems.

Rubin works remotely from Los Angeles but flew into San Francisco to be with the XDefiant team for the game’s launch today, May 21.

XDefiant has been years in the making and has faced a long and challenging road to release. The game was seem…

Dragon Quest Heroes II Review

Dragon Quest Heroes II is a JRPG on fast forward. The gradual addition of new party members, the rollout of plot twists, and other typical genre roadmarkers come at you at a fast clip. If it normally takes 100 hours to amass a kill count of 10,000 enemies, this game lets you reach such milestones in less than 10. And, as one of the many spinoffs of the 20-year-old Dynasty Warriors series, it retains the best elements of the franchise’s trademark combat, where you decimate armies with rudimentary, albeit flashy, combos. Dragon Quest Heroes II distinguishes itself from its equally great predecessor with its free roam-friendly fields of battle, which feel like an homage to the open expanses of mainline Dragon Quest games.

Though it’s a sequel, you don’t need any c…

Edie Falco's Comments About Avatar- The Way Of Water Led To "A Lot Of Flack"

In 2022, prior to the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, Edie Falco made headlines when she said she assumed the film had already come out and flopped because “I didn’t hear anything about it.” She said she had filmed her scenes four years prior and was busy with other projects so she didn’t follow what happened with The Way of Water. Now, Falco says she caught some flack for those comments.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show With Julia Cunningham, Falco said she heard from writer-director James Cameron’s camp that he wasn’t happy. “I heard straight from the source who was with him when he heard that I had said that, that it did not go well,” she said (via EW). “I took a lot of flack for that.”

“All I was saying is I’m a jerk Come from
