Prediction: Inter Milan vs Fiorentina

Best Odds: 7/10

Bookmaker:

Looking to make it three Serie A victories on the spin, Inter Milan will welcome Fiorentina to the San Siro on Sunday evening.

Inter Milan

Starting with the hosts, gaining a string of plaudits last season as they reached the Champions League final, Inter Milan appear to have carried on from where they left off back in June. Opening the 2023/24 campaign with what was a routine 2-0 victory at home against Monza on August 19th, the Nerazzurri now have their sights firmly set on mounting another title charge this time around. Likewise, last seen putting in another eye-catching display as they landed a 2-0 win away at Cagliari, it appears that the mood in Simone Inzaghi’s camp is at a real high. Yet to ship a single goal from their opening two Serie A appearances, the former champions have certainly impressed with their continued success on either side of the summer break. In fact, Inter Milan have won nine of their previous 10 top-flight showdowns a run that stems all the way back to April 15th.

Team News

Picking up another knock and yet to make a single appearance so far this season, Inter Milan will once again be without 35-year-old defender Francesco Acerbi on Sunday evening.

Once again finding the net away at Cagliari last weekend and now notching three strikes from his opening two Serie A appearances, attacking talisman Lautaro Martinez will spearhead Inzaghi’s charge here. The Argentina international will be joined in the final third by 26-year-old Marcus Thuram.

Fiorentina

As for the visitors, while Fiorentina might have punched their Europa Conference League ticket earlier in the week, the Viola will be more than aware that they face a huge challenge here. However, mounting a real second-leg comeback Stadio Artemio Franchi as they eventually clinched a 2-0 victory against Rapid Vienna, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have enjoyed an eye-catching start to the 2023/24 campaign. Mustering four points from their opening two Serie A showdowns, it is no secret that the Tuscany-based outfit have their sights firmly set on mounting another European charge this time around. Nevertheless, hit with a 2-1 loss when they welcomed Inter Milan to town for a Coppa Italia showdown on May 24th, Fiorentina should be worried by a nightmare record against Sunday’s hosts. In fact, Italiano’s men have won just one of their last 15 straight showdowns against the former champions a run that stems all the way back to April 2017.

Team News

Making the move from Sassuolo earlier in the week, 25-year-old Maxime Lopez will make his full Fiorentina on Sunday evening. However, the trio of Jonathan Ikone, Gaetano Castrovilli and Antonin Barak should all miss out at the San Siro.

Enjoying what has been a hugely impressive start to the new campaign and already notching four Serie A strikes, the red-hot Nicolas Gonzalez will spearhead the Viola’s charge here.
